Is it legal to download Instagram videos?

People ask this before using any Instagram downloader — and they should. The short answer: saving a public post for personal offline viewing is often treated as acceptable, but the creator still owns the copyright. Republishing or commercial reuse without permission is a different story.

Copyright still belongs to the creator

Downloading a file does not transfer ownership. Music, film clips, photography and branded content remain protected. If you want to post someone else’s Reel on your channel, get permission or a license.

Safer personal-use habits

  • Download only public posts
  • Keep files private unless you have rights to share them
  • Do not remove watermarks to pretend the work is yours
  • Prefer content you created or were given rights to store

What ReelDownloader supports

ReelDownloader is built for public Instagram URLs and does not ask for login credentials. Private accounts are intentionally unsupported. Read our Terms and Privacy Policy for more detail.

This is not legal advice

Laws vary by country. If you need a definitive answer for business use, ask a qualified lawyer. For everyday personal offline viewing of public posts, stay respectful and transparent.
