How to copy an Instagram Reel link

Every Instagram download starts with one small action: copying the Reel link. If the URL is incomplete, shortened incorrectly, or copied from a chat preview, tools like ReelDownloader cannot fetch the file. This guide shows the cleanest ways to copy a public Instagram Reel link on iPhone, Android, and desktop — then paste it to download an MP4.

Only public Reels can be resolved. Private, deleted, or restricted posts will not work. Download content you have the right to keep, and remember that copyright stays with the original creator.

What a good Reel link looks like

A usable Instagram Reel URL usually looks like one of these:

  • https://www.instagram.com/reels/SHORTCODE/
  • https://www.instagram.com/p/SHORTCODE/ (sometimes used for Reel posts)

Instagram share links may also include tracking parameters after a question mark. Those are fine — you can paste the full link. What does not work well is a truncated message preview, a screenshot of the URL, or a link that opens a login wall for a private account.

Copy a Reel link on iPhone

  1. Open the Instagram app and play the Reel.
  2. Tap the paper-plane Share icon.
  3. Scroll the share sheet and tap Copy Link.
  4. Open Safari (or Chrome), go to reeldownloader.in, and paste the URL.

If you do not see Copy Link, swipe the bottom row of share options — Instagram sometimes hides it behind More. After copying, avoid pasting into Notes and retyping the URL by hand; paste the clipboard value directly so nothing gets cut off.

Copy a Reel link on Android

  1. Open the Reel in the Instagram app.
  2. Tap the paper-plane Share icon.
  3. Tap Copy link.
  4. Open Chrome, visit ReelDownloader, and paste into the download field.

Android clipboards usually keep the full URL. If paste seems empty, return to Instagram and copy again — some share targets replace the clipboard with a different message. Then continue with the steps in download Instagram Reels on Android to save the MP4 into your gallery.

Copy a Reel link on desktop (PC or Mac)

  1. Open the Reel in a browser at instagram.com while logged into Instagram if needed to view the feed.
  2. Click the three-dot menu on the post, or use the share / copy controls shown on the Reel page.
  3. Choose Copy link, or copy the address from the browser bar when you are on the Reel’s own page.
  4. Paste that URL into ReelDownloader and download the MP4.

Tip: if the browser bar shows a home-feed URL instead of /reel/, open the Reel in its own page first, then copy. Feed URLs are not always enough for a reliable download.

Copy from Stories, DMs, or shared chats

Friends often send Reel links in Instagram DMs or WhatsApp. Those messages can still work if the embedded link is complete. Tap the shared Reel to open it, then use Instagram’s own Copy Link from the share sheet. That is more reliable than long-pressing a truncated preview in a chat bubble.

If someone forwards only a screenshot or a caption without a URL, you cannot reconstruct a valid download link. Ask for the original share link or open the creator’s public profile and find the Reel there.

Common copy-link mistakes

  • Private Reel: the link may copy, but downloaders cannot access private media.
  • Partial paste: missing characters at the end of the shortcode break the request.
  • Wrong page: copying a profile URL or Explore page URL instead of the Reel URL.
  • Expired share surface: rarely, a shared preview stops resolving — open the Reel again and copy a fresh link.
  • Assuming “Save” is enough: Instagram’s save bookmark does not create a file or a shareable download URL.

After you copy: download the Reel

  1. Paste the public Reel URL on the ReelDownloader home page.
  2. Tap Download and wait for the preview.
  3. Save the MP4, then move it to Photos or Gallery if you want it in your camera roll.

Responsible use

Copying a link is normal sharing behavior. Downloading the file is for personal offline use of public content you are allowed to keep. Do not use copied links to bypass private accounts, remove creator credit for republishing, or redistribute copyrighted work without permission. ReelDownloader is not affiliated with Meta or Instagram.
